A Dialogue with WolframAlpha

There was once a manga/anime (Japanese cartoon) titled: Ghost in the Shell which was released as a feature lenght film (wiki it) . The main 'pseudo'antagonist was a hacker named the Puppet Master who in the end turned out to be a sentient being gaining consciousness and life through the 'sea of information' provided by the internet. WolframAlpha (wolframalpha.com), a program which aims to integrate all knowledge found on the web may very much bring the Puppet Master, a piece of science fiction into reality.

I decided to test out this new technology by typing simple questions which supposedly WolframAlpha could respond to frankly and humanlike as if in conversation. As hinted by the 'Alpha' in its name the tech is still pretty hit and miss:

OLO: Hello Wolfram Alpha.

Wolfram Alpha: Hello, human.

OLO: How are you today?

Wolfram Alpha: I am doing well, thank you.

OLO: Describe yourself for me.

Wolfram Alpha: Additional functionality for this topic is under development...

OLO: Here's a picture of my girlfriend (shows picture), Do you think she's sexy?

Wolfram Alpha: WolframAlpha isn't sure what to do with your input.

OLO: Okay...

Wolfram Alpha: (gave me the definition, pronunciation and synoyms of 'okay')

OLO: Nevermind.

Wolfram Alpha: Did you mean : peppermint

As you can see, Wolfram Alpha is pretty much a savant with Down syndrome.
When Wolfram Omega comes out that may be a whole different story, but you have to realize that we still have to suffer through the varying mental retardation of Wolfram Beta to Zeta to get there. I'm skeptical for now.
